Why “Another Black Girl”?

Because Black girls are not a monolith.

Some people say we all look the same. Others individualize, isolate and scrutinize Black Women. Like the Black people we walk alongside, we too come in different shades, colors, races, creeds, backgrounds, and socioeconomic groups. While maintaining my individuality, contributing to my community and reveling in the cultural essence of Blackness has always been essential to me.

I am another Black girl because I am not the first, and most definitely will not be the last. My ideas, efforts, proclamations, and hardships are not new. They have bled through the delicate paper of our society for a long, long time.
